Skills shortages: sample assessment task and preparation guide for Unit 2

To achieve Outcome 3 in Unit 2, students are required to analyse one or more significant challenges facing an Australian industry and the implications for stakeholders. Possible skills shortages is one of the significant challenges that may be selected. This article provides some background information on skills shortages, cartoon-based discussion starters and a sample assessment task in the form of an industry investigation. Preparation questions are also included, which are intended as a guide for students in researching the topic of skills shortages. They are to be completed prior to undertaking the assessment task in class.

Area of study 2/Outcome 2 in Unit 4 focuses on the role and importance of training and workplace learning in Australian industry. This activity requires students to develop and deliver their own training program. They are also required to undertake a training program developed by another student in the class. The purpose of the activity is to give students� a first-hand insight into the characteristics of effective training and the importance of developing training programs that meet the needs of individuals and organisations.
