IMPORTANT – From the VCAA bulletin, no. 51 August 2007
VCE Accounting - November Examination
From and including 2007, for questions involving the topic Budgets, students will not be required to consider GST. This is because to include GST would unduly complicate the task and thus undermine the assessment of the relevant knowledge and skills.
Past exams:
Vicki Baron, from Haileybury College, has generously reworked and adapted the past four years of VCAA Unit 4 exams to meet the new study design. As accounting teachers, we are lucky to have someone who is happy to share her hard work with us. A big thank you on behalf of all members to Vicki.

Budgeting SAC:
Here is a computerised SAC to use with your students. It does contain conditional formatting on the Balance Sheet page – it tells the students they have it right or to keep trying at Total Equities. If you would like to change the Balance Sheet you will need to click the tools menu, protection and then unprotect sheet. The protection is there so they can’t see the formula used to show the words as it contains the answer.

Getting stuck into analysis and interpretation Editors' Contribution
Firstly, launch the topic with an interesting but true story to help get your students into the mood. Try this short PowerPoint which was developed from a recent newspaper article about Amazon.com
Then let them great their hands dirty with a group activity. The data is this activity is based on a previous common assessment task, however, students work in groups to try to put the information together and complete a SWOT analysis of the business over 2-3 lessons. They present their findings to the class
This PowerPoint file provides an introductory resource to start the discussion of analysis and interpretation, including general information relevant to the study design
